I rarely had cause to visit the clinic, and so all of the other times I’d been here recently coincided with Layla getting injured.
When Xavier came in with my mate a moment later, all rumpled and bloodstained, the older, usually diminutive man simply punched some numbers into the sleek landline on his desk.
“Get a room ready, now.”
That was all he said before getting up out of his seat, and aside from a clipped ‘Follow me’ he didn’t say anything else.
Layla’s room was ready even before we got there, and the Doctor asked Xavier to fill him in on everything that happened as he laid her out on the bed so he would inspect her.
