Suddenly the wind kicked up, hard and fast, tearing through the hollow like a scream.
Nova jerked back. "We need to go."
Atlas hesitated. "We haven’t seen what—"
"We seen enough!" Wren shouted over the wind.
A shape shifted behind the tree. Not human. Not animal. Just... wrong.
They ran.
Feet slipping in the mud, branches lashing at their arms, breath burning. They didn’t stop until the air turned light again, the shadowline behind them.
Back at the Bone House, they collapsed in a heap.
No one spoke for a long while.
