I pull out my notebook, pen clicking open. Small sparks flicker at the tip for a second—nerves or excitement, hard to tell—before I rein them in. Mrs. Hale claps once for attention. **Mrs. Hale:** “Alright, class. Yesterday we started *Romeo and Juliet*. Today we’re reading Act 1, Scene 5 aloud—the masked ball, first meeting. I’ve assigned pairs. When I call your names, read the lines with feeling. This isn’t a race.” Names get called. Groans and laughs ripple through the room.

She shushed the class to speak again, "all of you know that we do field trips to art museums and annual drama play, so I will start with our annual drama play," "Drum rolls please, this year our play will be..." she went to her desk and brought a book covered with black cloth. She loved to add her touch. A student played a drum roll sound on his phone to add more suspense. "Thanks, Parker." She smiled, then continued revealing the drama. She removed the cloth slowly, showing the book. "Romeo and Juliet," she said as she glanced at it. A couple of students cheered happily and others groaned.

The purest form of an audition. Cassie looked at her, and for a moment, Amara felt like she was being x-rayed. The director didn't smile, didn't offer a word of small talk. She simply pointed to the script on the table. “Scene 17,” Cassie said. “The theater monologue. Just a cold read.” Amara nodded. She didn't need to look at the script. She had lived with these words for a week. She stepped to the center of the room, her back to the harsh light of the window.

"This is a historical mystery drama, and I’ve secured you an audition for the lead role. Take some time to study the script. I’ll go with you to the audition in three days. "I’ve read through the script myself. The plot is tightly woven, with each mystery leading to another. It’s full of suspense, and the pacing is intense. There isn’t much romance, and it avoids all the cliché love storylines. I think this drama has great potential to be a hit, so I really want you to get the lead role.

I asked, glancing between them. For a moment, there was silence before Wren finally acknowledged me with a glance. “They’re auditioning,” she said simply. “For what?” I frowned. We were told to assist, not join some ridiculous theater production. I had enough problems in my life without having to memorize lines. “The drama Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen,” Aaron explained, taking a small step away from Wren. I narrowed my eyes. Today we'll going to have a drama presentation about Romeo and Juliet and I chose Yennii Lorca and Adoneram Reid to be the lead characters" he surprised us with it.

The judges sitting in front of her were all cold and expressionless as they sternly said to Sumire, “You have five minutes to read the script. After that, you will begin your performance.” Sumire nodded, then tried to flip it open and read as quickly as possible. Usually, Sumire learned scripts very fast, yet today her mind was filled only with chaos. The churning discomfort in her stomach had not lessened at all and was only becoming worse. The scene Sumire had to perform was a heartbreaking one in which the female lead heard news of her parents’ deaths from a distant relative.

He smirked, barely there, then moved on. The first hour dragged on. We discussed the syllabus, expectations, and boundaries in literature. Then the professor smiled wickedly. “Let’s dive right in. Page seven of the packet—‘The Claiming.’ Damon, would you pick a volunteer to read the opening passage aloud?” My stomach dropped. Damon’s gaze swept the room and landed on me like a predator. “Lila,” he said, voice smooth and deep. “You look engaged. Why don’t you read for us?”

A few students get up to walk to the front for the stapled sheets we already took. “And before I get any complaints… it was not my idea to rehash Romeo and Juliet for this term read. I know we did it before a couple of grades back. It’s working alongside the drama department and their choice of show for the end of term. Blame the head.” “Sir… what’s the point in reading the same thing and handing in the same essays from two years ago?” A voice from the back perks up, and he smiles their way broadly.

"I love it. The chemistry between you and him is unmatched, but you, Noah, really need to work on your emotions. I want to feel it, not just see it." "Alright, ma'am," Noah said nodding "Now class, I need you all to check the class group, I’ve dropped a P*F of a play and I want everyone to read it because it might just be the selected play for next week's program." The Drama teacher announced. "On our next class, I’ll select the people that will get this play on act. We really need to start moving on this. The theater will be opened next week and by then we should have been prepared."
