She came behind me in the mirror; only a small bit of her navy maid of honor dress showed behind my wide skirt as she brought her face next to mine. Our resemblance was gone. Her hair was now a lovely shade of blonde with blue tips that covered the last six inches. The soft blue curls were colored specifically to match her dress. It worked.

When we reached the corner where we always split, he paused. “Do you wanna come over?” he asked. I blinked. “To your place?” He nodded. “My brother works late. You’d be safe.” I hesitated, then nodded. “Okay.” --- Blue’s house was smaller than I expected. A two-bedroom rental tucked behind a bakery, with peeling paint on the front porch and a cracked window that had been patched with duct tape. Inside, it smelled like lemon cleaner and old wood. Once again Harrison was with his cronies in the car park, this time parked next to my vehicle. Was he stalking her or what?. “Hey Charlie” his voice was an annoying drawl Charlie gives him a big smile “Hi Harrison” “What do you want Harrison?” my voice was more spiteful than what I intended and Charlie raises an eyebrow at me in question. Why did this dude keep showing up at the most inconvenient times?

Engel looked up and saw—to her surprise as a conservative, aging woman—Charlene was dressed in a thin, flimsy spaghetti dress barring almost too much of her breasts. Her motive was clear as day. Charlene swung her hip and sat next to Brendan, whose eyes remained nailed at his documents without ever lifting his head. Annoyed, she pressed his documents down and said, “Bren? No work allowed at the dining table, remember?” Brendan tucked the papers into his folder and looked up, finally noticing her getup. His face was as solemn and stoic as ever. It was as if Charlene had put on some normal, oversized T-shirt. “Where’s Deirdre?”

I BLINKED. It was really Charlie. He was standing near the counter and checking out our collection of bestseller books there. He was wearing a black short sleeve polo shirt and faded jeans. His black hair was a bit longer than the last time I saw him. His skin got tanned. What was he doing here? All along, I thought it was Gideon. But of course, why would he fetch me when he won't come home to his house? Our house. "Oh, there's Bianca," Kelly announced on the counter.

He wore a cropped blue robe with slits along the arms, a constellation of sparkling gems cascading down the shoulders. His eyes lit up when he saw Charlie, and then me.

Troy asked playfully, unclasping what had just been a fresh diaper. Charlie continued to happily doze, likely having sweet, milky dreams while his brothers caused a ruckus. I looked down at Will, who was looking back up at me with his darkened irises. I could just see a hint of blue in them now as they lightened, pale blue, like my own.

Charlie raised up a black jumpsuit with a stretchy jumpsuit and a deep V neckline with a ruffle detail, sleeveless cut and wide leg pants. It was classy and chic enough for a date with Ryder Bates.

So I chose it. I paired it with black heels. I was red carpet ready and now it is show time.
