Nero Nights
They’re strong, they crash over me, over and over and over.
There are bodies here with me, too. Men and women, even children. They’re dead. They must be dead, because none of them are moving, trying to get to the surface. They look out, their eyes open, frozen, fixed. Some of their mouths are still open, as if they were submerged and instantly killed the second they went beneath the surface.
It’s like a still life portrait, but a horrifying one.
As I look around me, as I look closer, I realize.
