“Heard he was patching in.” Davey’s smile was tentative. “Just a ploy to get the MC’s to go to war over him.” “Why?” “The Night Stalkers asked me to do it. They’ve got beef with him.” “Night Stalkers are dead,” Jake said. Davey shook his head. “No, they’ve been regrouping, rebuilding. Slither’s brother is running things now. They want revenge and they want Wrath without any backup and no retaliation when they take him down.”

The battlefield around me blurred, the clash of claws and the scent of blood becoming a disorienting symphony. Alpha Draxler, undeterred by my waning strength, refocused on Trevor. A vicious slash, a grotesque ballet of violence, painted Trevor's chest in a vivid display of crimson. The scene unfolded in agonizing slow motion, each drop of blood a testament to the sacrifices demanded by our world.

Muscle memory takes over, making it instinct now. Moving onto doing checking drills, Quinn comes at me. He's skating hard and full speed as I brace for the hit. Mine were nothing more than mindless husks, hell-bent on destruction and mayhem. A beat of silence rang out before our two sides collided. I pulled the silver blade from its sheath on my thigh and charged, aiming for my brother’s throat. Slade dodged, spinning as he easily avoided the blow. He came up with his fists, slamming one into the sensitive meat just below my armpit. I deflected his second, and dug my elbow into his gut, using him as a springboard. We were nothing more than blurs dancing and weaving throughout the army of the dead. My friends and family jumped back into the fight, but more than once I could feel Nox’s eyes gaze upon me.

The first contraction hit like a bolt of lightning splitting through my spine, stealing my breath and doubling me over with its savage intensity. Outside, the battle had begun. The sound was unmistakable, a symphony of violence that I had orchestrated but could no longer conduct.
