When the weather was less cooperative, they raced up and down the grand marble halls, as if the palace was no more than a playground. And in many ways, it was better than any playground they had ever been to before. The palace not only had hallways stuffed full of antiquities, but many of them also featured suits of armor and sharp weapons that five-year-old Troy found fascinating. It also had its own labyrinth, on the lowest level, where there must have once been dungeons. Troy was particularly interested in the possibility of dungeons. He’d turned five and become bloodthirsty. Something Aaliyah imagined she would have to deal with if it continued a decade from now.

“Johnny, show Anita the room.” Johnny frowned slightly. “What room?” Grace smiled. “The baby room.” Anita’s eyes widened slightly. “You made a nursery?” Johnny scratched his head. “Something like that.” Grace led Anita upstairs. Joan and Johnny followed. When Anita stepped inside the nursery she stopped. The room looked warm and welcoming. Soft colors. A crib. Toys. Blankets. Everything carefully arranged. Anita felt something twist painfully inside her chest. “You did all this?” she asked quietly. Johnny shrugged.

I am alone in the house with few maids and tons of guards outside. Our baby will be with us in few days.. Everyone is excited for the baby.. Gio and Dom are the most excited one for their little sibling.. They are already planning what to do even though they don't know the gender yet.. I opened the door of the nursery that was right beside our bedroom for better access.. We kept it neutral though with used both blue and pink tones in places.. But it looked not too girly or boyish.. Though we could easily hire someone to build the nursery, Alex always refused..

I said. --- The blast door opened. The Nursery was behind it. I had imagined cages. Chains. Darkness. Instead, I saw a playground. Bright colors. Soft mats. Toys scattered across the floor. Children sat in small chairs, coloring. Others played with blocks. A woman in a white coat read a story to a group of toddlers. It looked like a daycare. But the children's eyes were wrong. Empty. Hollow. Like dolls. "Welcome to the Nursery," Wren whispered. "This is where they break them."

"The Nursery." The rogue nodded once. "Yes." A chill moved through the room, literal temperature drop as several people's nervous systems responded to stress, or maybe just the psychological weight of that word spoken aloud again. Because the Syndicate Nursery concept had already shaken several council members earlier when Hale had revealed it. Children raised in controlled environments that looked like orphanages but functioned like research facilities. Trained from ages when most kids were learning to read and write. Shaped psychologically through methods that would make behavioral scientists either fascinated or horrified.

I gave him a scornful look but he still guided me to the stairs and out of the metal door where I startlingly saw Phillius who is already waiting for me to get out of the dungeon. The door of the dungeon is in the middle of the garden like a secret passage which automatically opens when I press a button on the side of it. It cannot be seen clearly by humans because the metal door is covered with artificial grass that hides it from plain sight. But for the werewolves, this dungeon is not a secret to any of them because I am sure they clearly smell the awful stink down of it and I wonder how many Faes Phillius had captured to torture down that horrible place.

I lead them toward the nursery. Damian had it built at the heart of the estate—a circular room behind reinforced glass, designed to look like a sanctuary. As we approach, the air changes. It flattens into an artificial, padded silence that makes my ears ring. I step inside. The silver threads beneath my skin go still. They don't pulse. They don't even flicker. I walk to the center of the room and run my fingers along the edge of the hand-carved crib. The Argus iris above the door is dark. No thermal sensors. No biometric taps.

Now, about the dungeon...” The maid muttered before speaking “It's behind the garden. There’s a wrought iron gate that leads to an underground passage. But it’s dangerous, madam.”
