Because not everyone in your ‘found family’ agrees on what comes next.” Silence. Nova typed something behind the hallway wall. “It swallowed everything. Helix, government networks, medical systems, orbital satellites—every structure humans rely on. He’s not running an AI anymore. He’s rewriting civilization.” Clara leaned back, rubbing her forehead with the exhaustion of someone who’d been awake too long to remember what rest felt like. “And the world is thanking him for it. No poverty, no corruption, no more fraud. They think they’ve been handed perfection.” She laughed, but the sound cracked. “Perfection built on obedience.” Sophia’s voice dropped to a dangerous calm. “Perfection built on obedience isn’t peace. It’s a cage too clean to notice.”

After all, Arius was their savior, the man they all loved and honored, and here he was, walking with a lowly human. However, he didn't seem ashamed of her at all. If anything, he pulled her closer, as if making a point. Maybe one day the Deslyan race wouldn't be so closed off towards humans. Maybe they'd come to realize that their races weren't that different. Misty leaned down and kissed Rain’s stomach and whispered, “I love you, baby brother.” Smiling, Rain said, “He loves you, too, big sister.” Misty laughed and ran off, back to her dad. Rain followed her with her eyes and then met Adam’s gaze. The two of them smiled at one another, sharing a private moment no one else needed to know about. They may have started off victims of a tyrannical government set out to brainwash and abuse the citizenry, but they had created an existence so very much like a utopia that Rain couldn’t imagine any other place she’d ever be.

I couldn't get enough of the utopia this place offered. I let my eyes open, meeting the dense vegetation ahead. Something about it reminded me of the Morenos. Desolate, unkempt, haggard. Exactly how those fuckers would be when I was done with them. Their pack house would be in ruins. It'd be a place unfit for habitation even for termites and ants.

The buildings stretched to the sky, and all work was done by machines. There were even machines that could make things out of what seemed to be thin air. Anything you wanted… anything your heart desired could simply be created. The labor-saving machines freed up the people for more rewarding pursuits.
