I asked him.
Without looking up from his book, he said, “Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary, over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore--While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping. As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.”
I had to assume he was answering my question by reciting his poem, but I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about, so I only stared at him, dumbfounded, until he lowered his book and arched an eyebrow at me.
