“Did you draw this?” She nodded proudly.“It’s you.” I leaned closer. The drawing looked absolutely nothing like Dexter. The man had a giant square head. Tiny legs.And what looked like seven fingers on one hand. I pressed my lips together. Dexter looked at the drawing. Then at the little girl.“You made me look handsome.” She smiled.“You are handsome.” I nearly choked. I really couldn’t help it. I knew I shouldn’t find any of this amusing, but it was getting harder not to. I could just laugh a little. Laughing wasn’t necessarily a crime.

Just shove them in and close the box and stack another box on top. I know what's in there. I know exactly what's in there. Page after page after page of him. His profile when he sat three rows ahead in calculus. The way his shoulders looked in that navy hoodie he wore every Tuesday. His hands holding a coffee cup in the library. His hands holding a pencil. His hands doing nothing. Just existing. Just being hands I wanted to draw. The back of his head. God. I must have drawn the back of his head two hundred times. The way his hair grew. The small cowlick at his crown. The exact angle where his neck met his collar.

Nothing pulls me out of a weird mood faster than doodling. As we go through the scene for the umpteenth time, I find myself doing rough sketches of the men in front of me. None of my drawings ever look particularly realistic - my doodles have more of a cartoony, comic book style - but I'm pretty proud of how they turn out. Once I've done Omar and Mr. Grand, I move on to the person I really want to doodle - Orlando. I don't get him right the first time. Or the second. Or the third. At first I can't seem to get his hair right, but by the end it's his eyes that are giving me the most trouble. Nothing I draw can capture how startling and direct they are.

All of them joined in this highly unsuspicious conversation as they carried-dragged me away from the line of people all watching the group of weirdos who apparently had never seen a tree before. The drawing was of me when I had my scraggly beard and my hair wasn’t quite right either. The artist had also taken the liberty of thickening up my eyebrows and giving me a vicious scowl. Wanted-me definitely had the face of a criminal and was also, somewhat upsettingly, much more handsome than regular-me.

I asked quietly. Edward hesitated before smiling gently. “He’s very busy right now, but he’s making sure everything is ready for your pack school enrollment.” I tucked the snacks away carefully before pulling out a folded paper from my pocket. “I made this for Father,” I said, handing it to him. Edward opened it and stared at my drawing. It showed a strong alpha wolf standing protectively over two smaller wolves. “I’m sure he’ll love it,” Edward said softly, his wolf’s sincerity wrapping around me like a warm hug.

Dean was silent and watched as Edgardo closed the distance between them and surprisingly pulled him for a hug, shocking him to his bone marrow. Dean was confused by that gesture but didn't have enough time to think when Edgardo suddenly grabbed hold of his ponytail and cut it off and then released his hold on him. Moving back a bit as he held the length of Dean's hair he had cut

"How did you know?" one of the men exclaimed, reaching for the stun baton in his pocket. Debra casually touched the crest on their chests. "The logo is wrong. Be more careful with your forgeries." She turned around and raised her voice. "I'm already here, Mr. Odom. Why don't you come out with Miss Eaton? We'll have a little chat." Soon, a figure emerged from the abandoned factory. In just half a month, Edgar had become extremely haggard. His face was covered in stubble. His hair was disheveled, and his shirt was dirty.

I had to be the one to collect the cash they had to pay before taking a picture. As I'm handing out a couple of their changes, Bryson and Elena approached me. Bryson was handsomely dressed in his black tuxedo, black tie, with a white inner shirt, an expensive silver watch, and shiny leather shoes, while Elene was attired in a mini dress and heels. Her dark pixie hair is styled in curls, and her makeup is beautifully done. "2 dollars for a pic," I said quickly, keeping my eyes on the floor flashing with red lights as Elena glared at me.

And that was okay. Today I was helping Micah, a thirteen-year-old with a shaved head, hoodie sleeves always tugged down over their palms, and the eyes of someone who’d seen more than they should’ve. They weren’t chatty, but they liked drawing. Their sketchbook was filled with figures that resembled comic book heroes, quiet and fierce, with eyes always cast in shadow. They were hunched over a new page now, sketching a person standing in the center of swirling chaos. The figure held a long sword in both hands, the blade resting downward, tip touching the ground. Not raised. Not slashing. Just… there.
