Not people. Presences. One moved like my brother’s breath the night he chose silence instead of grief. Only that when we bring parts of ourselves there— the parts still clenched in explanation— they soften. They don’t disappear.

Dana shrugged indifferently. The three of them instigated, then coaxed Neville into telling them what happened 15 years ago. Shadow filmed Neville from the background avoiding Dana, Lara and Sarah being captured in the frame. Neville sat back with a regretful sigh as he finished narrating his lecherous deeds. “Come…” Neville extended his hand to invite Lara to sit closer to him but slopped back on the chair. Ed had hit him in a knife-like movement between the neck and shoulder rendering him unconscious. He couldn’t wait another minute ‘Heh! The bastard was hitting on his woman.’

He raised his hand slowly, his fingers trembling. It was as if he finally made up his mind. He shut his eyes and swung. Smack! The sound was sharp and loud. Pain burned across my face. The force was strong enough to make my ears ring. I tried to struggle, but Nevaeh's grip tightened, her nails digging into me in warning. She was born with immense strength. However, she hesitated when she saw the blood trickling from my nose. She probably had not expected Edward to hit that hard. Something flickered in her eyes.

Edward He advanced towards me, casting a shadow over my trembling form, his eyes filled with a sinister gleam. "Oh, Edward," he murmured, almost mockingly. "This was never a battle I intended to win. Consider this a cautionary tale." Without warning, he pivoted and strode away, the sound of his heavy footsteps reverberating through the desolate hall. I attempted to pursue him, but my body rebelled, causing me to falter and grasp my side where his razor-sharp claws had pierced through. Blood seeped through my fingers, the metallic tang saturating the air with a foreboding presence.

"Sorry. Alpha Ryan just couldn't keep his hands off me. Honestly, it's exhausting." I stayed silent. That only seemed to fuel her. "You really don't get what he wants. You're old and flat. No wonder he never wants to sleep with you." I said nothing the whole ride, and eventually, she ran out of steam. But just before we reached the club, a rogue with a silver blade in his hand swerved his car straight toward us. I yanked the wheel hard, but it was too late. We were hit. The impact slammed me into the side window. Pain exploded in my leg like it had been torn open.

Beyond the lies and the games and the pretending. But now, standing at the edge of the pool watching Mike's hands on Winter's shoulders, that cold fear creeps back in like fog rolling over still water. Somewhere in the distance, soft music drifts from the resort's outdoor bar, romantic and slow, mocking me with its sweetness.
