“We’ll talk later.” I sighed and let myself fall onto the bed, staring at the ceiling. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I wasn’t alone in that house. Something—or someone—was watching me. Suddenly, I felt it. That strange sensation of being watched. I slowly sat up in bed, sharpening my hearing. A creak in the hallway? A whisper behind the door? My heart began to race. Then I saw it. Two yellow eyes glowed from the darkest corner of the room. A black shape moved within the shadows, and for a second, a shiver ran down my spine.

----- Alone at night the house had a different character entirely. Without Josiah in it the rooms did not press. The silence did not carry the low hum of surveillance. The darkness outside the windows was just darkness, not the specific watching quality it took on when he was somewhere in the building, a light on in his study, his presence threaded through the walls like a current you could not see but always felt. These nights belonged to me.

“And you have to let the other three bodyguards here.” I nodded. “I don’t mind.” The house is big enough and I have an extra room upstairs that they can use to sleep since they will guard me in two shifts. They immediately went upstairs to take care of the room and I started taking off the sheets here in the living room. And I was stunned where I was standing when I saw a blood mark on the couch. My heart started beating so fast because of what I saw. Fear started eating me away and every memory that I had that night started to come back to me.

The man’s intentions were clear, and Haru felt a shiver run down his spine at the thought of what was coming next. They stepped inside, the door closing behind them with a soft click. The silence of the house enveloped them, broken only by the faint creak of floorboards underfoot. The man carried Haru straight up the stairs, his steps sure and unhurried, as if he knew exactly where he was going. Haru’s stomach fluttered with anticipation, his grip tightening around the man’s neck as the alpha entered a spacious bedroom.

There’s no doubt in my mind that it wasn't. The cult house has earned its name. Dozens of demons have resided there, some caught, some not. Over sixty people have lost their lives inside the house, some recovered, some not. Activity has died down over the years. Few disturbances are from the actual house anymore. Attention has been moved to the surrounding houses, especially the one across the street. This woman said so herself. This house is the most beautiful in the city, modern and up-to-date appliances, luring people in. With a perfect house and cheap rent, everyone looks past the terrible location or is unaware of the darkness that resides nearby.
