The sight of the chess pieces and the board made me smile involuntarily. Adrien caught the look and grinned back. "I do still owe you a game, don't I?"
Adrien observed me, his moves deliberate, each a silent challenge I met eagerly.
"So, James, will you ever tell me what really happened at the tryouts?" he asked, his eyes searching mine for something more profound.
Caught slightly off guard, I paused, holding a bishop in my hand. "I'm just a private person, I guess," I began, setting the bishop down without making a move. "I need to know I can trust people before I let it all out, you know?"
