It was worse than I’d realized, but I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing. The audacity of these keyboard warriors was almost comical. Instead, I widened my eyes, feigning shock as if this was my first time hearing and seeing the comments.

She was seconds away from deploying it. And then her entire system seized. A klaxon, loud and obnoxious, blared from her speakers. A message, written in a garish, sparkling pink font, filled her main screen: YOU HAVE BEEN CHALLENGED TO A MEME WAR BY @WEREWOLUV88! PREPARE FOR DEFEAT, HATER! “What the hell?!” Aria shrieked. Her network, her beautifully crafted, military-grade digital fortress, was being flooded. Not by a hostile government or a rival hacker, but by millions of requests from a single source: The Global Brother-in-Law Fan Club’s online forum.

“You don't deserve Trevor either. I know him better than you. That bro is a fucking psychopath. There was a poop emoji on top of my head, my brown eyes were replaced with a red laser, and a boldly written text on the picture said ‘SLUT’. I groaned and locked my phone immediately. But it was too late. I’d already seen it. Another buzz. Then another. Curiosity got the better of me again. I saw a particular message from a private page in my DM.

I frown and immediately reply. Me: What’s on saturday? Evelyn: you’re joking, right? :O A second later, she sends a GIF of a guy clutching his chest in fake horroI snort, biting back a laugh as I stare at the screen. Me: Uhm… no? Am I missing something? Evelyn: oh my god.
