My breath caught, as my mind connected the dots instantly.
“Your son?” I echoed.
He smiled again.
“Yes, Antonio.”
There was a slight pause, as I now saw the resemblance and was surprised I hadn’t put it together earlier.
“I am Hector Valera.” He said, “Antonio’s father.”
I stared at him, really stared now, trying to match this man in front of me with the version Antonio had painted in my head. They didn’t align at all.
