He spoke with a Slovakian accent that had faded over the years to a mixture of British English and Eliza’s Mid-Western American, but it was clear, concise, and made perfect sense. Jo had to wonder why Cassidy wouldn’t have explained all of that before. Maybe they just wanted to hear her version of the answers. Or maybe Cassidy hadn’t done her best to convince them because she didn’t want them to come. She wasn’t sure if Cassidy’s husband, Brandon, would’ve been able to use his mind tricks to convince them or if that didn’t work on Souled Vampires and/or Guardians who had been exposed to his father, Elliott, for so long they were immune to that type of persuasion, but had Brandon even tried?

Kai demands, “What is going on?” Lux huffs, causing the hair to blow out of her face and her movements slow as she responds, “Ellie is missing and he has something to do with it!” I ask softly, “Who’s Ellie?” “She was the Gamma Female of the Bloodlust Pack. She was the one who was trying to stop you from taking me.” I press my lips together as I remember the image of the woman who tried to block Lux and told her she would have to knock her out if she wanted to leave. Lux growls again as she says, “I can hear the change of your heartbeat, Apollo. Where is Ellie?”

For now, we needed to make sure Ellie was okay. Ellie POV I was floating in darkness when I saw a familiar bright light walking towards me. “Am I dead?” I asked the form walking in the bright light. As it approached closer, I was shocked to see it wasn’t Pearl but someone else who looked familiar to me. Maybe I was really dead and the Moon Goddess was welcoming me home? “Oh sweet girl, no, you’re not dead,” she said with tears in her eyes. “I am so sorry what happened to you, I am sorry I wasn’t there to protect you,” she sobbed out.

I had no idea how much longer we could blow off Katrina before she was going to demand answers. We had stayed at the packhouse during those couple of days, and Ellie just loved meeting all the different creatures. She even befriended a demon named Susie, who was about her age. It was pretty odd to see but I wanted her to know and understand all the different creatures we had to share this world with. She’d been sheltered for far too long.

She left the map and picked up a book, ignoring both Sebastian and I. She bounced off of him and went flying, landing on the ground… Right next to Michaela. The sound of howling and growling let her know that her reinforcements had arrived. Rather than getting back up and continuing to fight, Ellie let River and the others who had just made it onto the scene leap over her and the baby she was now sheltering. They flew over the top of them and engaged with the ghosts who'd infiltrated their pack.

Zekan asked as he stood protectively next to father, as if assuming Ellie had done something wrong. Father sighed. “Nothing is wrong”. “He won’t even just think on my idea!” Ellie said as she stared at father. “It could work!” “No! it’s not up for discussion!” Father shot back at her angrily. “Wait, what idea?” Zekan asked. “I suggested that I go out into the forest wearing someone else’s clothes, ones that give off the scent that I could possibly be a vampire and if I’m spotted alone by one of these ‘hunters’ it might draw them in!”

Once I did what it took to help her, I could focus on what the hell was happening here. “Ah ah,” Ellie says as I peek toward Serenity again. “Shouldn’t you be paying attention to the person in front of you?” As she speaks, something solid grasps my chin and makes me look at her and when my eyes widen, the smug smile she is wearing brightens. “Oopsies,” Ellie laughs. “I guess you didn’t realize.” She’s a witch. Not only did we have a traitor amongst us, we even had a witch who was manipulating the situation this whole damn time.

She began to sob. “Ellie don’t cry please." Cesar begged her. "It was just a dream and nothing more. Belle’s not dead and even if she eventually dies...that won’t be your fault.” “It looked so real!”. She cried. “Did you watch a horror movie before going to bed?”. He asked with a resigned sigh. “Yeah.” Ellie said in a small voice. “Ellie!”. He groaned. She was the kind of person whose dreams projected the kind of movies she watched into her subconscious making her think it was real. It was weird but that was Ellie.
