That is her department, I just understand how they work, not what they are made of. When the walls are activated they have an electric charge and are completely soundproof. Think of it as an industrial sized cow fence. We had to stay clear of the walls by at least ten feet. She hasn't completely figured out how to put the charge just on the inside yet. Ellinore figured that out the hard way. I still laugh thinking about it.

“School’s over, Ellie. You might want to shake some breath of life into yours.” Ellie makes a sound like she’s trying to mumble rap. She raises her head and looks straight at the opposite wall, where the door is. “Ellie, I know we haven’t been on talking terms of late, but the one thing I don’t know is why the hell you would come in here crying your eyes out like you’ve lost your womb.” Ellie gives her a look but Anna waves it away. “Don’t give me that look now. You’re lucky that wall is not a mirror, Ellie. You would have been scared to even see how you look.”

“Now open the door before your fake billionaire husband sues me for trespassing.” Lena slammed the button to buzz her up, already halfway to the door. When the elevator chimed and opened, Ellie practically burst out. Short braids swinging, oversized tote on one arm, eyes scanning the penthouse like she was ready to fight it. “Wow,” she said, stepping inside. “So this is what a contract with Satan buys you.” Lena couldn’t help the laugh that escaped. “You’re not supposed to be here.” “You’re not supposed to be living in a marble museum,” Ellie shot back, then pulled her into a tight, grounding hug. “I’ve been calling you for days.”

The girls are in total sync, playfully nudging each other as they head for the door in a single wave. They leave behind a group of bewildered men, all staring at the suddenly empty seats around the large round table. *** "I feel like a princess," Ellie says, trailing her fingers along the pine paneling. "A very well-appointed one," Lisa agrees. "Honestly though," Ellie says, pausing in front of a wall panel, "Elias's family is just—consistently staggering. Every time I think I've adjusted to it, there's another layer." "Yeah," Lisa agrees.

Ellie snarled, "Grandma, she is Rachel's best friend—the one who gave her the mansion. She's an influencer, and she is also very rich!" A scheming expression crossed Abigail's face as she pondered that Larissa must be quite wealthy to give away a mansion like that. She wondered if she could keep Larissa close and perhaps secure a few more mansions. "How dare you trespass on my property and assault my bodyguards? You surely can't handle all of them at once, can you? Everyone, attack!" "Everyone, attack together! Just make sure she stays alive!" exclaimed Ellie, adding fuel to the fire. Larissa once threw Ellie into the trash can. Today was the day Ellie could avenge herself!

Her bare feet made a soft, flat sound against the parquet as she crossed the rug, her fingers tucked deep into the pockets of the gray university shirt she still hadn't taken off. Her eyes were rimmed with a dull, heavy red, and her lower lip was dry where she’d been biting it since the drive from the lower garage. Damien made that very clear. Oh, and then there’s Ellie. Poor, broken Ellie. She doesn’t speak, doesn’t blink much either…just sits in silence, staring at walls only she can see. Her attention strayed to the security walls approximately fifty yards ahead. They towered thirty feet high and guards patrolled the perimeter on the catwalks overhead. Below her stretched grass and a few trees that made a park-like setting between the dorm building and the outer wall. The new five-thousand-acre Homeland had just been completed and Ellie had spent her second day living there. No one strolled along the sidewalk that twisted through the grass and trees below.

Cassandra’s POV Maybe I’d misheard him. Ellie was in jail awaiting her court date. She was being charged with multiple crimes, including two accounts of attempted murder: messing with Stanley’s medication and shooting Dillon. Plus kidnapping, of course. They weren’t even allowing her bail this time. After the court date, Ellie would be in jail for a very long time. “I’ll give Ellie what I owe her,” Vivienne sighed. What she owes her? Why would Vivienne owe Ellie anything?
