"Well, congratulations to you, as you're about to hold that tittle now. At least, he just announced you to the whole world as his fiancee. James pressed on, crossing his index finger over his heart in a childlike way. She laughed, though her eyes glanced away from his before raising to meet them again. "Very well." She lifted her chin. "I rather enjoy gothic novels. L. R. Gloucester has a new book out. Lady Gloria and the Earnest Earl."

Collins staggered, clutching his face, shame and pain mingling in his expression. The door flung wide. Eloise swept in, draped in luxury, her presence heavy with perfume and authority. Her gaze brushed over Collins like he was dirt on her heel. With a flick of her hand, she shoved him aside. He stumbled, tears springing unbidden as she sneered. “This wouldn’t even cover a day’s treatment.” His voice broke before he fled, humiliated. “Pathetic.” Victoria adjusted her sleeve, never sparing him another glance. Eloise settled herself into an armchair, poise flawless, like a queen waiting for court. “It’s your big day. Don’t let the pests rattle you.”

He couldn't move an inch. “Just relax,” Elsie said, as she leaned forward and kissed his chest. “I want you so bad right now, though,” Ollie said, as he pictured himself sliding inside of her. She sat back up and Oliver watched as she reached her hands behind her back. She pulled down on the zipper of her dress, causing the front of it to fall a bit. The top of her breasts were released, but still not enough for him to see her completely. “Please take it off,” Ollie begged, wishing so badly he could just pull the dress down for her.

Now they were professionally mounted, highlighted by golden lighting, her name elegantly printed at the bottom of each frame. My throat tightened. I had missed all of this. Every step of her growth. Time passed slowly. The assistant brought me a glass of water, which I barely touched. Then, at last, I heard the soft clack of heels against the tiled floor. My head shot up. Eloise walked in with a tablet in one hand and her phone in the other. She wore wide-legged ivory trousers and a black silk blouse tucked neatly at the waist, her curly hair pulled back in a sleek bun. She looked… god, she looked like a diva.

Elaine said, appreciating the concern. Elaine and I chatted into the night, I noticed her eyes light up as she talked about her favorite books. "Have you read any of Jane Austen's novels?" she asked me excitedly. "Yes! Pride and Prejudice is one of my all-time favorites," I replied, smiling at her enthusiasm. "Oh my gosh, I love that one too! Mr. Darcy is just so swoon-worthy," Elaine gushed, her cheeks turning pink. I laughed at her reaction. "I have to admit, I may have a bit of a crush on him myself."

Her daughter cut her off without looking in her direction. “What do you-” Huffing in agitation, Eloise barged in, “The Book of Oath is gone!” Of course, it is. Ambrose took it.
