Rowyn POV “This one looks ancient as fuck,” I muttered, dragging a dusty, leather bound beast of a book towards me. The cover had a silver sigil that pulsed faintly, like it was breathing. Kyren leaned over. “It’s humming.” “No shit,” I said, flipping it open. Aster whistled low. “Uh… Rowyn? That page is glowing.” Yeah. No kidding. The script wrote itself as we watched, ink blooming across the yellowed parchment like spilled wine.

"That book carries the curse of power. The Moranos used it once to conquer our ancestors. We will not let history repeat itself. The book must be destroyed." Elowen laughed softly, her tone sharp as a blade. All eyes turned to her as she reached into her cloak and pulled out the black book. "Name your price," she said. The Atlan master frowned. "What game are you playing?" "Jewelry, gold, boxes of money," Elowen said carelessly. "Too small," she added, tilting her head. "I need more." The master glared at her. "Fine." He snapped his fingers, and his men brought forward boxes of gold and silver.

I said softly. “Before the twins were born. You watched them grow. You held them when they were pups, didn’t you? And when you warned the old king about the Book…about the darkness coming…they called you mad and threw you down here. Not because you were wrong. Because you were right, and they were afraid.” Elowen’s lips parted. For a moment, no sound came out. Then she laughed…a thin, brittle sound, like twigs snapping under snow. “Clever little dead girl,” she murmured.

Like a precious lost treasure, she held the book in her hands with the inscription "The Book of the Banshees" etched like gold on the cover. Evelyn's eyes were trained on the book, lost in the sight of it like an invisible specter tethering her thoughts and focus to one single point.

He opened it right there, his gloved hand dipping inside and shoving here and there. Elowyn's pulse hammered. She knew the Draven Book was inside - she'd tucked it in herself last night after her panic and didn't want to return it. Azpen's hand came out empty. He lifted the satchel for everyone to see. "There's nothing here," he said coolly. "Elyan likely didn't take the book." Elowyn froze. What? The instructors frowned, confused. "Then where is it?" Azpen met their eyes steadily. "Perhaps the Dean should address that herself. She's already asked to meet Cadet Elyan."

Rivyn replied calmly. “Me?” The blonde man’s eyebrows arched. “I’m not going down.” “I can spell us both. You have two arms. Consider what additional riches you can retrieve with those arms,” Rivyn pointed out. “I am only after one object, a spell book which is of no use to you. You may have whatever else the chest contains, plus whatever you bring up with you.” The man considered him, rocking on his stool slightly. “That might be nothing, if we run into trouble.”

I was about to leave when Kraven called me. “Stay with me, Elowen. My fingers and eyes are tired and I could use some help. Would you mind reading the book to me?”
