He didn’t say anything at first, just slid an arm around her waist and pulled her close.
“She’s strong,” he said, voice low. “Vivianne.”
“She is,” Ember replied, leaning into him. “But I don’t think she’s done grieving. Not just for Julian, or the past, but for who she used to be.”
Asher was quiet, thoughtful. “Maybe none of us are who we used to be.”
Ember nodded, her eyes scanning the woods. “No. But the land remembers. And the silence feels… heavier lately.”
He followed her gaze. “Something stirring?”
