The space was cramped—barely enough room to breathe—but that only made it hotter. Mara kept her eyes fixed on the projector screen where a grainy black-and-white photo of Sylvia Plath stared back at the room. She tried to look attentive. Normal. Bored, even. Amy, with her vibrant personality and infectious energy, provided a perfect cover for the tension simmering just beneath the surface. The observer continued to follow them as they moved through the city, stopping at a quaint café. They chose a table outside, and the observer found a spot across the street, hiding behind a newspaper while still keeping them in sight. The observer watched as they laughed and chatted, their bond clear and strong. This was the Emily the observer remembered: lively, full of hope, and surrounded by people who cared about her.

COLE'S POV We were halfway to the facility when Sage made a connection. "Jeeeezz, Marcus," she said suddenly from the back seat. "Marcus Webb." I glanced at Sage from the rear mirror who had gone completely still, staring at her phone. I was driving the car I had borrowed from Victoria. "What about him?" Julian asked beside her. "Marcus Webb is Richard Webb's son," Sage said slowly. "Richard Webb is our mother's brother." She looked up with wide eyes. "Marcus is our cousin."

Partly because he’s been unreachable, and I’ve seen Sage a few times in the blogs caught by some random paparazzi, and those times, she looked so peaceful and calm as if nothing happening could faze her. Sage was someone who couldn’t stand hurt or pain, and most especially, she had eyes that had her away every time, so seeing her look so calm, almost peaceful, sent a wave of jealousy and bitter resentment. But that was not all, I had decided then that she could enjoy a few weeks of peace until I showed up with my bomb.
