Alit embraced Ederic, offering him advice to take care of himself.
A glistening tear slid down her cheek. Once more, she patted his back and released the embrace. Ederic picked up his luggage and exited his mother's room. He cast a backward glance.
Naturally, he had hoped his older brother would be there, but his room remained locked. There was no sign of his arrival, which the younger one found difficult to come to terms with.
"I tried to get him to go with you to the airport, but he declined," her words stung like salt on an open wound. She said it without realizing or perhaps she didn't grasp how crucial his brother's presence was for him.
