In my previous life, after my death and my parents’ fatal accident, Rosie used my name as a shield and swallowed the Quinn Corporation whole. Now that things had gotten to this point, it was no surprise she would resort to such tactics. Ironically, I had Tyler’s arrogance to thank for the damning evidence of their affair. Without his recklessness, I might never have gathered solid proof. Rosie continued her performance well into the night. When she realized her words were not getting through to me at all, her tone turned sharper and became tinged with anger.

Emma's pov. “Emma calix, you are not fit to be my Luna,” Damien's voice echoed through the clearing, it was unyielding. His words cut me deeper than any claw ever could. I stood frozen, my chest tight and my heart pounding as the pack members gathered whispering among themselves. My mate, the man the moon Goddess had chosen for me, was rejecting me in front of everyone. “Damien” My voice cracked as I tried to fight the tears welling up. “Why are you hurting me? That finally got him ousted." She laughed, sharp and brittle. "I offered to marry him, to let him take control of what was left of the company. But he refused. Tried to kill himself again.

Papa asked, making the young male jump. “Oh… hello, Beta Damon… sir.” Emmett bowed his head. ‘Zoe, why is the barely old enough to have shifted male all jumpy? Tell me you aren’t his mate or something.’ Papa asked in our link. ‘First, ew. Second, you’re the Beta to an infamous Alpha who wouldn’t be jumpy?’ I rolled my eyes. “So, what was it you wanted, Emmett?” I asked, already starting to walk away. Emmett hurried to catch up as he realized I was serious and that he needed to make it fast.

Emmett injects, releasing his long breath. “Yes, until Sylvia confessed” she replies. “What aren’t you telling me?” she questions, pausing to see if Emmett would respond. “Your mothers and I were the troublesome trio growing up. You need to tell me.” “I didn’t want to get you involved if I could avoid it” Emmett answers her, getting out of his seat to pace in his office. “I found you when I came back because you were the closest person I had to a mother. I told you about Drake and asked you to our wedding.”

Aleksandr and I paused and watched Emmett pace the hallway for a minute before we followed the rest of the party downstairs. ‘Did you get Emmett to talk to you yet?’ I link my mate as we descended the stairs. ‘Only briefly’ he sighed, ‘he feels the pull of the mate bond, but his mind was unprepared for this, and he’s struggling with what she is.’ ‘You mean because she is part vampire?
