she pleads, “come down for breakfast. You haven’t eaten in three days. You’re weak.”
“I’d like to die, thank you,” I mutter, moving toward the balcony.
The door closes gently behind her, but she doesn’t leave. I step out into the breeze, staring down at the lights twinkling like stars across a city I don’t recognize. It’s beautiful. Like a storybook.
Like a lie.
“Where is this?” I ask without looking at her.
“The Twilight Court,” she answers, stepping beside me. “Valen’s palace.”
I inch away from her, and she notices. I don’t care.
