I say handing him some of the blank papers, I set the pencils between us, lay on the floor and beginning to draw. Mathew was busy drawing cars, and other boys' things, why he's so crazy about cars, I was doing a pretty picture for daddy as he told me, I was almost done, it's the glitter time! Her eyes, always so bright and innocent, carried none of the pain clawing at my chest. “Mommy,” she said softly, holding the drawing out to me. “This is what I drew today.” I knelt down and took the paper from her, trying to keep my voice steady. I smiled at her. “It doesn't look pretty when I close my eyes.” She sighed dropping her brush. “But we can make it pretty. If it is not pretty then it is not worth drawing,” I said, pulling her closer to me. Scarlett smiled nodding her head. I took her brush and stretched it to her. With this, she continued to draw. This time, I just watched. My heart was shooting pain to my nervous system. My baby used to draw colourful things. Birds. Barbie. Anything that had colour.

For a little guy, he is way too good. There are all different kinds of drawings that are too neat, I shuffle through them, trying to find one to stick on our fridge in the kitchen. I smile to myself when I come across a picture of him and I then there's Jasmine and even Alex, with and without devil horns— that makes me laugh. I pass by other boyish things, like cars, dragons, dogs, dinosaurs and ninjas, lots and lots of them.
