“Classic.” Further down the aisle, another section glowed faintly. WILLA ROANE – PROPOSED ENDINGS. A chill crawled down my back. I pulled one of those books. Opened it. The first page was the Standard Ending door I’d already seen: me in the car, crash, nothing. Another volume: Tragic Author Ending—me fused into the Core, eyes dull. A third: Hero Dies, System Survives—me throwing myself into some code‑storm while Corvin was dragged back into bound service, Selene re‑crowned, Jax promoted to handler.

She said, pushing the book closer to me as I opened the book, written with little notes in the margins. "Promise me you'll give it when-". She was at a loss for words, when she paused like that stuck on the thought, we knew what she meant. We always knew what she meant. "I promise". I said, trying to give her anything she could've possibly wanted. "The book. My support group at the hospital talked about it. Oh— wait, he should join one". She spiraled, speaking out of the way to try to explain why she had ever had it in the first place. But I understood what she was doing, this was her way of accepting this, accepting that this was the end of her journey.

‘I am now reading the second book you sent me, your favorite, Tuesday with Morrie by Mich Albom. Irina: ‘Oh yeah, that’s one of the best.’ I said and lifted a fork to my mouth. ‘Learn from it by heart, the book tells you about time and death and other things in between. It’ll tell you simple and priceless things in life,’ I added. ‘It goes like, we live not just to make a living but to really live life, and have no regrets when death comes to us,’ I said and put down the fork to the small white porcelain plate. ‘Morrie teaches us to love and be human.’

I bought it and I ended it in a day. It was heartbreaking to say at least. Not tragedy, but the ending was hard to put in the words. "It is." His words were heavy. "The ending was shocking. The whole book was different." It dealt with things I never thought about before. It made me realize that every moment of our life we die, every moment of our life we live. That every thing mattered. My fingers swiped the cover, with two people standing in the front and words revolving around them. "What was your favourite line?"

It was as if someone had written her story long before she was even born. The story was about a young woman who discovered she had only seven days left to live. Instead of drowning in fear, she chose to spend her final week with the man she loved. Creating memories, laughing through tears, and cherishing every heartbeat. On the seventh day, she took her last breath in his arms, smiling.
