I left the hall and wandered into the garden to look at the flowers. "Why did you come out here? Didn't I tell you to wait for me?" That cool, steady voice came from beside me. It was Chandler. I turned my head and happened to meet his deep, steady gaze. "Look at these blooms. Back when we studied at the academy, the flowers looked just like this." Since my grandfather was the royal advisor, I naturally had the right to study alongside the princes at the academy.

A meadow. Glowing. Golden. Bathed in magic light that shimmered like stardust. Damian and I walked forward in silence, wounded, bloodied, but alive. In the center of the meadow was a single flower. Tall, with petals that shimmered gold and silver like woven moonlight. The fabled Solaria Bloom. “It’s real,” I breathed. “It can cure curses,” Damian whispered, kneeling beside me. “Like the one killing my father.” I picked it with shaking hands, the stem humming against my palm. For a moment, I felt warm.

“No. Older. These were the Silent Keepers. They didn’t sing the bloom into being. They held it—kept it from unraveling.” Mikkel straightened. “And they failed.” Solen nodded once. “Because they were alone.” A silence fell between us, heavier than the dead wind. That night, under the fractured moons of Kainora, the bloomwood rose again. It began with a whisper—small, gentle. A tremble beneath the ground. Then a single sprout broke the crystal crust, glowing faintly with inner light. We circled it, holding the silence. Then Kaia sang—soft, a melody unfamiliar but instinctual. A memory of a song that had not yet existed.

I blink a few times and it’s still there when I take another look, a little sunflower on my bed. I approach it slowly, not sure why, it's not like the flower might disappear, or transform into a huge monster and eat my head but then again, this is me we're talking about, strange things happen to me. I’m just really surprised to see it here, I place one knee on my bed then bend a little, reaching for it, I pick it up by the stem, the frown leaves me as I thought of who might have left this here, Zayne. Petals in deep silver hues, the core throbbing with a gentle, supernatural radiance, like it had a pulse. “Holy shit, that’s the Silverbloom,” I whispered, transfixed, wonder coursing through me, my chest clenching with relief, the burden of the quest finally lifting, even as Lucy’s smirks and Liam’s strokes lingered in my mind.
