I released Ronan’s face, instantly thinking of my own younger brother, Taylor. If anyone tried to hurt him, then I would do whatever it would take to protect him.

Irina cried out. "Shameless whore, If I had a sister like you then I would have killed her to protect the family honor," Dominic yelled at Irina. Our mother granted her a demon name while she was in the camp. I gave her a human name when I took her from the camp.”

“ The Alexis Williams? Or…” I held out a hand at her. “ CEO Williams corporation” I added. “ I’m Samantha, and I'm Nortia's sister, the only one she has in this world” she beamed excitedly. I withdrew my hand, making sure she knew how it felt before she withdrew back into her shell. “ I guess you aren't a fan of handshakes then” I scoffed, I could see what she was doing, and she had lied. I had overheard her talking down on Nortia and anyone who talked down on my wife didn't deserve me speaking to them.

Eric suddenly announced, surprising Derek, who was standing beside him. “I promise”. Xavier didn't hesitate and made the promise. After hearing Xavier's promise, a satisfied smile appeared on Eric's lips. He led Xavier to Vanessa's desk-seat, and also allowed him to sit on it. Afterward, he announced, “Xavier, the first secret you need to know is this. Nicholas is the only guy my big sister has ever dated”. After listening to what Eric had said, Xavier's eyes widened in surprise. Derek left the spot he was standing at, and approached Eric and Xavier, since he wanted to contribute some words. “My big sister also appreciates those who understand her strong personality”. Derek exclaimed.

"She loved him — or at least the man he used to be. Before the obsession. But eventually, it was like we stopped mattering. My mother would beg him to stay home, to focus on his family, but… he never listened." There was a long pause. "And you?" I pressed gently. "Were you the only child?" Eric's head lifted, and his gaze met mine — and for the first time since I'd met him, I saw something raw and broken beneath the calm mask he always wore. "No," he said quietly. "I had a sister." I blinked. "Had?" Eric's eyes returned to the fire. "Her name was Elise," He whispered. "She was… six." The weight of his words crushed the air between us.
