** Into the Depths** The heavy wooden trapdoor groaned as Adam lifted it, revealing a set of worn, narrow steps that descended into the darkness below. A damp, earthy smell wafted up from the tunnel, and Claire’s heart raced at the thought of what lay beneath them. The air down there felt thick and stale, like the breath of something long forgotten.
