The urge to steal a glance of her tormented me constantly. Esme was back at my side. I had my one arm wrapped around her waist and had a drink in the other as we conversed with alphas and lunas from other packs. Esme knew how to hold a conversation and keep it flowing. She was narcissistic for sure but was a social butterfly as well. “Ron, Evangelina, come join us,” my back stiffened up a little when I heard Esme calling them. Her scent hot me before she came into my line of sight. Even then, I refused to look at her and kept my eyes on the ugly alpha who was now greeting them with a smile.

Light exploded from the point of impact, tearing through the corrupted energy in violent, sweeping arcs. The entity shrieked, its form fracturing into shards of black glass that screamed as they fell.

I tell her about life above the ground and try to respond as best as possible to her questions while I wait for the scythe. It doesn't take long for the scholar to return. The scythe is smaller than I expected. It has a straight handle, while the blade has the shape of a crescent moon and red. Different gems ornate the blade. Esme's POV "Norn please stop this, put the knife down and let's talk about this." I tried to persuade her but she wasn't ready to talk. She lunged forward towards me and I turned away, grabbing onto Ethan tightly and burying my head into his chest, awaiting what would most likely be my death. The sickening sound of flesh being sliced through echoed in my ear and my breath eluded me for a moment, until I realized that I couldn't feel any pain.
