THE THIRD MATING
The world around me seemed quiet, almost calm, while everyone else saw a blur.
I clamped my jaw onto its shoulder and shook. Its arms flailed uselessly as I forced it back.
Elias and the five hybrids were shocked. They went all at once.
But the same thing happened. They were all in slow motion. I lunged at them, tearing through them with my fangs.
One of them lunged from the side, but with a swift swing of my claws, it was in pieces mid-air.
The soldiers roared, slamming their vervain-laced blades into the hybrids, skin sizzling, black blood oozing. The hybrid snarled, lunging again, but the soldiers had the upper hand.
