Author's POV Esther paced in the marked hallway of the hospital she worked in, her chest was beating faster than it was a few minutes ago as she kept calling the same number over and over while pacing back and forth. She still wasn't able to prescribe the possible whereabouts of Katie's mother's wolf and the alpha was beginning to crack down on her as Beta Crowell wouldn't let her be. He had just left her office after she convinced him to consult a higher and more experienced Autopsy doctor to whom she had transferred Hannah, Katie's mother.

But mostly, she hated her for the fear that now coiled in her gut, sick and paralyzing. It's just an illusion. I blinked, but the scene in front of me didn't disappear. It was real, but I realized what he meant. His words gave me a little strength to believe in myself. The place one worked said a lot about a person, and I could tell this was a woman who liked control—hence her reaction when I called her out. “I guess there’s no reason to deny it when you can sense it,” Esther said, taking a seat behind her desk. “So yes, I am.” I sat across from her, folding my arms before leaning back in the chair. Knowing she was possibly the one spilling every tiny detail to Mom, bothered me enough to cross my legs on her desk. Just to trigger her, and the faint flicker in her eyes showed I did. “I tend to keep my witch side to myself,” Esther recovered, forcing a smile. “And I would like to request you help me keep it a secret.”
