I opened my eyes fully and looked down at the sweet child peeking sleepily up at me. "You hurted my daddy," Miguel mumbled in confusion. My heart dropped and I shook my head. I wasn't completely responsible for their deaths. I mean their father died in the stupid Iraq war and their blonde haired mother hung herself after getting the news. I dealt with death but not the way the individual died, that was solely on those fate bitches. "This is bullshit, let's go, don't ever forget about me little man, we will meet again in the future, this I swear," I growled. I moved him off me, patting his head sweetly and hurried past Maria cursing me while holding a cross up at me.

I asked him and saw him release a breath I never knew he was holding back. “We’ll go to the river on the surface world which our people used to and still perform funerals for the dead. There, you would empty the ash into the water and say whatever you want to say to the deceased,” Billy explained. I exhaled after hearing everything he explained to me. Then I looked at him. “Let’s get on with then,” I paused with what I was saying when I remembered that we had to be careful if we were to go to the surface. “Or shouldn’t we wait until nightfall or something?” I suggested.

For a heartbeat I became light, boundless and infinitesimal. When lids fluttered open again River stood transfixed, orb tumbling from a suddenly limp grasp. Radiance poured unchecked from my outstretched palms engulfing his hulking form to freeze the black heart's frantic pulse. "Finally, he's gone." Lea whispered before going to a deep sleep. If redemption yet lingered within reach, the Goddess' grace would guide River's tormented spirit toward it under Her boundless sky. For good or ill, he was finally gone.

Author’s POV Xandros and Andean went ahead to the River of Life to dump Raphael’s body as that was the last ceremony to pay their last respects to a good soldier who had served their pack properly. For some reasons it was difficult for Xandros to get to the River for he still seemed traumatized by his last experiences as he said to Andean “”Sorry buddy! You gotta do this alone, i wouldn’t want to anger the water gods or spirits or whatever, it seems i might still be a fugitive to these waters”

Soon enough, the world would see exactly what kind of people they were. Wyatt was just about to slip away when the doctor finally rushed in. After performing a quick check on my body, he looked up at Celia and sighed heavily. "I'm so sorry, Ms. Ashford. Mr. Elliot has indeed passed away." Celia's arms tightened around me. The last trace of hope vanished from her eyes. "Why?" she whispered. "I calculated everything perfectly. The dose, the oxygen tank... I even left water and food in that casket. "No, I am fine," she whispered, her voice barely audible. River's eyes stung with frustration and despair, the bitter taste of disappointment filling her mouth. "Days of research," she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion. "Gone in an instant." She felt as though she had been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her.

The same brown, violent current that had claimed so much already roared beneath her now. Eloise stood at the precipice, toes inches from the crumbling edge, hair whipping wildly in the wind. Exhaustion and despair had hollowed her out. She could see no path forward—only an endless cycle of pain. If I end it here, she thought, maybe the curse dies with me. Maybe Elena and Mom can finally have peace. “God… forgive me,” she cried out, her voice breaking against the thunder of the river. “I have no light left to see. If You can hear me, give me one reason to keep living. Just one…”
