Haylee’s eyes widened in horror, her breath catching as she watched Kaylee collapse before she could get to her, blood pooling on the floor. I caught sight of Haylee’s trembling frame as she clung to Kaylee’s body, my heart pounding as my muscles tensed with shock and fury. I growled to Wyatt and the rest of the warriors, “Don’t you dare kill him. I want him alive.” They understood immediately, unleashing a barrage of arrows and gunfire at Evan, aiming to weaken him while Kaylee clung to her last shred of life in Haylee’s trembling arms

The screen flickered. “She’s going to find this eventually. And when she does… she’ll have to choose between destroying the system or becoming it.” Evelyn sat back, pulse hammering. Destroy the system... or become it. Her phone buzzed again. A new message from an unknown number: “Vex is dead. The Fifth Division knows you have the drive. Get out now.” She looked at the door. Footsteps outside. Evelyn reached for her gun — but not fast enough.

One guard remained, the one Evan was supposed to kill. The sound of a gunshot filled Chris’ ears. Evan stood still. The two of them stood frozen, oblivious to the world around them. The guard pushed Evan’s body off of him. It was then that Chris could see the hole in Evan’s chest. The hole was just under where his rib cage would be. A few seconds passed before the fifth guard fell to the floor dead and lifeless. Chris crawled over to Evan’s body. Evan was losing a lot of blood. “Did we win?” Evan asked.

After almost twenty minutes of searching, instead of finding Riley's whereabouts, James met Evan De Kruk who he saw killing one of the first class soldiers. “SHIT!” James screamed who immediately shot Evan in the hand. Evan who was hit by the shot suddenly counterattacked very quickly but of course James could easily dodge. Evan frowned and widened his eyes when he realized who he was fighting. Is he the deputy war general? Evan thought to himself. James shouted, “Alen, get out of the way first! Hurry up!”

"This is it," Alpha Evan said, opening the wooden doors and letting me in. "This is your house?" I asked, slowly walking in. After walking away from the painful scene of Miss Lillian and Raymond sobbing as the small room I'd called home burnt to shambles, Alpha Evan had shifted into his wolf in the woods. I had sat on his back much like I'd done a few days ago and then he had run all the way from our pack to his, stopping hours later at this house which seemed to be situated on a hilltop, over looking the town underneath.

She pulled on her scrubs, her mind still focused on the task ahead. The team was already gathering around the patient, and she was about to step into the room when she turned to the nurse again. “Did you say Landon Byers?” Evelyn’s voice faltered slightly, a sharp sting of recognition hitting her like a sudden blow. The nurse blinked, confused by Evelyn’s reaction. “Yes, ma’am, Landon Byers. That’s right.”
