“Yeah… at least we get to have a little fun before leaving.” “We sure will.” I smirked, rolling my shoulders. "This is gonna be fun." A voice echoed from above. "You can say that again." I looked up just in time to see Evan leap from the top of a container and land with catlike precision. "Quite the entrance," Damien mused. "Let’s get this over with," Evan said, his eyes flashing red. And then all hell broke loose. Gunfire erupted. The guards weren’t normal—they moved too fast, hit too hard. Some of them weren’t even human.

I looked at the son I raised, watching him beg for another woman to be his mother. I clenched my fists so hard my nails dug into my palms. I didn't cry. "Fine," I said. "I don't want him either." I stood up and looked Adrian right in the eye. "I, Evelyn Carter, reject you, Alpha Adrian of the Blackwood Pack, as my mate. May the Moon Goddess be my witness." Ethan stopped crying. Adrian's hand slipped from the boy's shoulder. Ethan reacted first. He tugged at Adrian's sleeve. "Daddy, say it! She said she doesn't want me! Agree to it!"

He shifts and scoops her up as she whimpers things I can’t hear. I see everyone back in front of the packhouse. And it’s like everything's in slow motion. Jake is down. Kyle is being dragged into the packhouse by his shirt by a wolf I don’t recognize. Evan’s dad is leaning on a warrior, one of his arms limp and at a wrong angle. There’s shouting and blood and bodies littered on the ground. Nick’s dad is crying into someone’s limp form. So much pain here. And they won’t stop. The Soul Eaters won’t stop coming. They’re rising from where they’ve been knocked out.

It was a long walk, until Evan spread his arms first while telling us to get closer to the wall. I pulled Key's hand, the girl glanced at me but I just focused forward. Every now and then I stare at Evan's small screen. In front of us there is like a camp, I think it belongs to the men of The Black Shadow. Very clearly seen from their tent. I looked at Evan, the robot was still tracing the camp. But not for long, Evan immediately turned off the robot's connection with the screen when the robot crashed.

Come to think of it, she does look familiar, but I can’t fucking place her…. Either way, I fucking hope I get some answers on what the fuck was going on. Would she know where my missing she-wolves could be? That beta girl seemed to be in the know, seeing as she apologized on behalf of her brother, but wait, if she’s a beta, then how the fuck is her brother an Alpha? Surely, I would have heard of something like that. Someone opening my passenger door breaks me out of my thoughts, and I instantly growl. “Yo, Alpha, chill. It’s me, Evan.” He says, throwing his hands up in surrender as I reach over to grab him.

She turns around and hurries over to the table. “What did you find out?” Everleigh asked. “We thank you and Walker so much. He was able to help us get in their dreams. They are barely surviving. We already lost one warrior that was taken. Thankfully whatever they gave the guys has weakened their bonds otherwise the torture and deaths of their pack members would have them losing their minds.” Aria says with a sigh. How in the world do they know this and who the hell is the Walker guy? Is it Everleigh’s new mate? The thought of that has my blood starting to boil.

So I walked through the shield and all the Hunters jumped up from where they were because I never told them that I was coming. "Wow. You're actually here." Evan says. "You doubted that I would come out?" I asked. "Well, sort of. It was really stupid of you to do so." He says. "And why is that?" I asked. And he pulled a device out of his pocket and showed me the red button on it. "Because you just killed your whole pack." He says pushing the button. But nothing happened. There was no explosion, no implosion, nothing. And he tried pushing it a couple more times but still, nothing happened.

The Reverent surges desperately, trying to catch the collapse— Too late. The border explodes in light and shadow as the figures advance in unison. Interface destabilizing, one intones. Prepare extraction. Hands of light reach for me. Ethan lunges, claws slashing through brilliance that doesn’t bleed. The Prime howls, a sound of pure fury and defiance. Blake shouts something I can’t hear as the world tunnels, pressure crushing in from all sides. I lock eyes with Ethan as the light wraps around me, panic and determination burning in his gaze.
