Gale's POV "Have you started distributing the fliers?" "Yes sir" "Good. I want his face everywhere, and even on TV, we wouldn't want him to escape." "Yes sir" "Okay, you may leave now" I stayed up all night reading the journal and I couldn't believe how terrible a man could be. I'm gonna have nightmares for the next month just for reading it, the kidnapping, the murders, I had only seen stuff like that in movies. Like killing people by boiling them, taking out their hearts, imprisoning people in dungeons,and using them for sacrifice. I for one never really believed in supernatural powers or ' beings from the other side ' , but now I do.

, she said, “So make sure to never do that. That way you can earn their attention.” I was certain that would have been the case if I wasn’t a ‘boy.’ He looked away first, a small scowl on his face. I couldn’t tell if he was mad at me or something else that pissed him off. “Okay. Let’s begin.” All the new players gathered on the court. I assessed my rivals – every single one of them was bigger and taller than I was, but the good thing was that they didn’t look gnarly like the guys in my former school did. These ones here had a quiet and calm disposition about them and I was intent on using that to my advantage.

I exclaimed. Silas took my suitcase and slowed down so I could catch up with him. I could still hear his crisp, even voice cut above the noise of the crowd. "I remember everything about you." I'd like to think I was blushing because the airport had turned up the thermostat. It wasn't until I had slid into Silas' white Range Rover that I finally understood how well he made it as a lawyer. In truth, neither of us came from money, though our families were considered upper-middle class. It seemed Silas was doing well since becoming a partner in his firm.

Shuddering through the words, I let my head fall to watch the ground. “It’s bullshit, Esme. All of this is an unfair game. All I’m asking is to try leveling the playing field."

The Barren Battlefield was vastly different from its name. For one thing, it wasn’t a wilderness that contained nothing. Rather, it was a stadium, one that was large enough to seat a 100,000 people! At the centre of the stadium, was an elevated field that was just as expansive as a football field; however, instead of grass and white markings, the platform was made out of the strongest minerals upon the earth, making it the best place to fight. This was the greatest stage of the Lion King clan, one that very few clans could match up to. This was the Barren Battlefield.

“Yes. We cannot play hard with…” Before they could continue, he negotiation, Adira and Isa both disagreed. “No!” the two female players said at the same time. “You should play just like usual,” Adira said. “There’s no need to look over us just because we are women,” Isa added. The two females looked at each other. “There is no gender in games,” Adira murmured that made Isa smirk. “That’s right!” Geoffrey agreed. “We are all equal in this game. No gender discrimination. No one is boss and no one is allowed to play like a kid.”

The small stadium on the edge of Westbridge felt more like a community field than a professional venue—rickety stands holding maybe eight hundred souls on a good day, chain-link fencing around the pitch, floodlights that flickered when the wind gusted too hard. No television cameras. No visible scouts in sharp suits. No one who mattered, except the players who still believed they could matter. Perfect.

Her brains splattered over the grass in the field. One down. One to go.

The Red Rubies had completed their choreography and they skipped away to stand behind the white touchlines on the field. I hadn't spent much of my time occupied in the ins and out's of sport but I could instantly tell that the dimensions of the pitch were not the average size of a football or rugby field. The playing space felt double the size and it only made sense considering the players were Vampires with abilities far more enhanced than humans.

The sound of shoes hitting the ground, the ball bouncing, the coach yelling—it all filled the air. Zade stole the ball again, his speed catching everyone. He weaved through two defenders, faked left, then powered right. He kicked hard toward the corner again, but Freckles leapt high this time, her fingers just reaching the ball to push it over the bar.
