“How are you getting something to eat?” “I broke into the candy machine, and the drinking fountain has water.” “Does the monster know you’re in here?” “I dunno, it never comes here.” “Where does it go?” “Sometimes it slides on the street. Sometimes it crawls in the grass.” “What does the monster do?” “It slides and eats stuff. It ate a squirrel. The squirrel tried to get away, but the monster crawled over it, and it was gone.” “Have you been anywhere else downtown?” “I wanted to go to the grocery store, but I’m too afraid. The monster will get me.”

Then Dylan began to slowly release his grip. "Sir, are you not going to pick up the fruit you picked earlier? Are the fruits for yourself, or do you want to share with others? The fruits in the suburbs are indeed delicious, it's a shame that few dares to take it because of the many monsters lurking around during the day." The monsters here are mostly lurking around during the day when the sun comes up. Maybe it's because they have basic human features, that's why they hide at night. “I was so shocked when I heard a monster talk this afternoon! Isn't that their latest evolution, sir? We should be able to exterminate them sooner so they can't evolve!"

The cart shook as zombies reached out with fake arms, making people laugh and scream. He didn’t say “sorry for your loss” like others did. “So… who are you?” I asked quietly. “I’m a monster,” he said. “No, really,” I said. “It’s true. I live in the dark. My job is to make people scared. I’m a nightmare to some. Like all monsters, I take what I want.”

As soon as Sam drove out of the mansion, I felt his gaze on me, and then his voice came. "It seems you didn't have a good night's sleep, Boss." He observed calmly, but I couldn't get myself to say a word to him. My mind was clouded with the thought of Elsa and the words she had said to me. After about a minute of remaining silence, I voiced out the thought that had kept me busy. "Am I really a monster?" I asked Sam, my voice laced with sadness as I peered into the rearview mirror, anticipating his response.

I had blown whatever chances I had by throwing Zara and her peonies across the wall, ruining all my chances. I sped across the hallway, mind racing and tears pouring freely down my face, I just wanted out of all this fucking freak show. The poor girl in me — the girl who had been dragged into this chaos — wouldn’t stop crying. I just wanted to scream. Wanted someone to explain why her life had turned into this mess, why the world seemed to spin faster around her than anyone else, and why danger seemed to follow me with relentless precision. And yet… All I could do was move back into the hallway, silent, trembling, utterly oblivious to the full weight of what was happening. I just wanted out

I'm packless, which apparently means I'm nothing in the supernatural world.

That night, the doll suddenly activated. Its soft, stuffed arm shot straight into my throat. I jolted awake, clawing at my neck, trying to call for my mother, but no sound came out. By the next day, I had a raging fever and couldn't stop throwing up. I cried, trying to tell my mother what happened, but all that came out were broken, garbled sounds. She tossed me a pack of cold medicine. "If you can't even talk, then be quiet for once. I'm exhausted after work."
