Chapter 51 Elena’s body went completely still in Vlad’s arms. Her heart, which had been beating weakly and irregularly, stopped altogether. Vlad squeezed his eyes shut, and tears of blood ran down his face. Valkyria and Adrian approached slowly. Then it happened—they heard the first heartbeat. She suddenly inhaled. Her skin, pale from blood loss, lost the last trace of human color. She felt her fangs break through her gums. She opened her eyes—they were light red, like rubies.
