The tattoo that attracts Raverine the most is the official insignia of Die Dark — a smiling skull with a bloody fang. The tattoos were all over his dark-toned face. He also had piercings on his nose and lip — a typical look of an outlaw.

“It’s their old neural wing. The one they kept sealed.” Eva stood, dusting her knees. “It was cold there. Like metal.” Savannah knelt, gathering her daughter into her arms. “You’re safe now, baby. No more cold rooms.” But the drawings kept coming. That night, they found another one tucked into Eva’s pillowcase. A man’s silhouette beside a red door, faceless, with the words “Echo Echo Echo” scribbled beneath in clumsy handwriting. Colton burned it in the outdoor oven.

A task she had neglected this past week, until today. She’d been at the library for a few hours searching for anything remotely about “self-appearing tattoos” and “burning tattoos.” The worst article stated that a person who had a tattoo suddenly appear was marked by the devil and was an instrument of evil. She discounted it, even though it still bothered her. She had never been one to think mean or evil thoughts, nor she had never done anything evil or mean to another person in her life. So, she reasoned, the description didn’t fit her situation.

A black raven stretched across his back, its wings half-spread on the back of his shoulders as though caught between flight and stillness. On his right shoulder was a black serpent curled over his left pec, glaring at the raven with so much intensity while the raven looked lonely and, worse, sad. More ink trailed across his back. Script. Symbols. Lines disappearing beneath fabric.

Fennel and Philip looked at each other before walking toward the manor’s entrance. Suddenly, ten burly men with tattoos all over their bodies rushed out of the manor. They were outrageously stout like gorillas! Fennel and Philip stopped at the same time. The former stared coldly at the ten burly men rushing out and said softly, “Be careful. These ten people are the Hellhounds of the Hall of Evil, the top ten killing machines under the Dark Angels. Their combat level should be between the third and fourth zones. Although it’s not particularly high, their bodies have undergone special transformations. Once their power is fully unleashed, they can reach the peak strength of the fourth zone!”

Eva settled her gaze on me, “Pain? If it is about the pain then he has got no reason. I have six tattoos on my body and when my tattooist planted them it was as painless as air sweeping across my skin. “Not fucking creepy at all.” Each page held the name of different demons, Lucifer, Mammon, Asmodeus, Satan, Beelzebub, Leviathan, Belphegor, and Chaos. Each one had a short description alongside a sketched photo of the demon themself and a symbol. I’d read through each one, finally landing on Chaos. He looked different than the rest of the sketches, as if he were a last minute add to the book. The drawing of him was smeared, as if the artist rushed. His symbol was different. Less intricate than the others.
