My wolf heightened my senses, and I listened carefully, picking up the faint sound of voices not far ahead. I followed the sound, my heart pounding, until I saw them. Lily. She was on the ground, her face pale, her eyes wide with fear. Stella stood over her, a knife glinting in her hand. “You should’ve stayed hidden,” Stella hissed, raising the blade. My body moved before I could think. A roar tore from my throat as I lunged forward, grabbing Stella and throwing her to the ground. She screamed, thrashing against me, but I didn’t care. Rage consumed me as I let my wolf take over. My claws extended, and with one swift motion, I ripped her heart from her chest.

The first Void Stalker lunged. A massive brown wolf intercepted it mid-air, snapping its jaws shut around the creature's waist. But there was no crunch of bone. The wolf let out a startled yelp as its teeth passed harmlessly through the shadowy form. The Stalker retaliated, swiping its dark-matter claws across the wolf's flank. The Lycan didn't bleed; instead, the flesh around the wound instantly grayed and necrotized, the life force sucked directly into the void. "Physical attacks are useless!" Marcus shouted, his heart hammering against his ribs. "They aren't flesh!"
