Less like someone waiting for the next thing to go wrong. Paul read these updates and felt something simpler than most of what he had felt. Straightforward, uncomplicated satisfaction at a problem being solved. He had spent years dealing in complexity — in plans with multiple moving parts, in situations where every action had consequences that needed to be anticipated and managed. This was not complex. This was just two people who deserved better, being given better, by someone who had the means to provide it and the will to do so anonymously, without expectation of recognition or return.

Keep your cool. If your expectation is a bit out of line or unorthodox maybe look at changing it or tossing it to the wind. There’s a quote somewhere that says expectations are the bane of happiness.
