Outsmarted by a Smart House

Outsmarted by a Smart House

I, Gianna Johnston, am born into a family of prodigies. My dad, Henry Johnston, is a computer science professor from Hafford University. My mom, Naomi Liddell, is a medical professor at Starvard University. And my brother, George Johnston, is an international math olympiad champion. Meanwhile, I'm barely passing my math classes at school. George gets so mad at me that he immediately writes down three full sets of math exam questions and exclaims, "You're so dumb that you're nothing but an embarrassment to Mom and Dad and me! "Don't you even think about leaving the house and embarrassing us again without completing all these math questions!" Mom then forces a few pills straight down my throat. Those pills are one of her inventions, called "smart pills". However, she doesn't care that I'm choking so hard on them that my eyes roll to the back of my head. "Stop using excuses, saying that you're tired or sleepy. These pills will keep you up for 24 hours without sleep. That should be enough time for you to complete all those math problems!" Dad then turns on "Strict Mode" on the smart house system, Domi. He says to me, "And don't even think about escaping the house to look for help. I will lock the door and cut off every signal going in or coming out. If you don't finish your work in time, nobody will even care if you die here!" After that, the three of them leave me behind and head off for their vacation in Hervaii. While shutting the door behind them, however, the vase of flowers full of water suddenly crashed into Domi's control panel. I'm choking so hard on the pills that I feel asphyxiated. I keep banging my fists against the front door for help. However, Domi, who has now short-circuited, keeps repeating, "Please complete your math questions, Gianna. Study hard and be a good student. "Study hard and be a good student. "Study hard and be a good student." I grip the sheets of math problems in my hands in agony. Will Mom, Dad, and George finally be happy when they see that I'm giving up my life for this?

Never Again Yours

Never Again Yours

When Gideon Clarke rejected another one of my reimbursement requests, he attached the same message. "Your grandma doesn't have long to live. No matter how expensive the medication is, she won't even know the difference. As long as her vital signs are stable, that's enough. My money doesn't grow on trees." He was right. So I decided I would never spend another penny of his money again. I was leaving the Clarke family and the gilded cage that came with it. When the housekeeper saw the divorce papers in my hand, she shook her head with contempt. "Couldn't keep your husband, so now you're playing games." Gideon took the papers without saying a word. He only frowned at me, looking at me like I was a child throwing a tantrum. "Audrey, I'm busy. I have research to do and papers to write. I don't have time for this nonsense." In the end, though, I still got the signed divorce agreement. All thanks to his adopted sister. I was Mrs. Clarke, the wife of the nation's youngest and most celebrated scientist. Yet I lived worse than a stray dog. My grandmother needed approval from his adopted sister before she could have a 50,000-dollar surgery. If I came down with a fever and needed to be hospitalized, I needed her permission. Even after my grandmother died, I had to wait for her to be in the right mood before I could pay the cremation fee at the funeral home. I had endured it for five years. One thousand eight hundred and twenty-five days. Now, I would never have to endure it again.

Twice Cast Aside

Twice Cast Aside

I was thrown out someone else's door twice before I even turned thirty. The first time was during my marriage with Donald Stern, a businessman. When it was time for my pregnancy checkup, I found out he was making love to a college girl right in front of the 100th floor's window. He called me a childish woman and threw me out the door. My father told me that all wealthy men cheated sooner or later. To prove people wrong, I married my childhood friend of ten years, Shawn Foster. He was accepting and caring of me. He did not mind that my ex-husband still sent apology gifts every year. He did not even mind that we had no children after three years of marriage. Every time we were going at it and reaching the climax, he would nibble on my ear and whisper, "We don't need children. All I need is you." On our anniversary, he brought home a woman I had never seen before and ordered the butler to throw my luggage out of the main bedroom. I clenched the pregnancy test I had not yet shown him. With a trembling voice, I asked, "What's the meaning of this?" A cigarette sat between his fingers. He had a look on his face that said he had just heard the biggest joke getting cracked. "Drop the act already, Yvonne. Haven't you learned anything from Donald dumping you?"

Question for the author: Am I missing something or is meant to be another chapter between what is labelled as Chapter 12 and Chapter 13 that has accidentally not been uploaded? Also, what is labelled as Chapter 13 is the same as Chapter 14? Can this be amended as I don’t understand what is going on.

Her Dark Knight

Her Dark Knight

Crystal Steadman
It’s Monday and my first day of my new school. I drive my car around to where everyone else is parked, so I find myself a parking spot. Then I find the front office and go in and get my schedule. My first class is math, so I walk into the room and I’m the first one in there so I walk up to the teacher and hand him my paper to sign that I have to take back to the front office this afternoon. “Hello Miss. Billie Green I’m Mrs. Smart. It’s very nice to meet you.” The math teacher says, then sings the paper. You can go find yourself a set. I would try to find one in the front on the left-hand side. The kids pretty much already have the back full.” She tells me, and really it’s okay. I kinda like the front anyway. I make my way to a seat that looks vacant and sit down. Kids start piling in about five minutes later. And walking to their seats, there’s a tiny little girl that comes and seats down behind me. She introduces herself as Shaylee Apple. “Hello Shaylee Apple I’m Billie Green.” I tell her and hold my hand out to shake hers. I turn back around in my seat about the same time as a tall guy that has dirty blonde hair cut into spikes all over, ash gray eyes, so gray I can see the color all the way in my seat. He’s wearing a tight fitted gray shirt, and blue jeans. He has a very handsome face, but then he looks at me and instantly I see hatred in his eyes. What the heck, he doesn’t even know me. .

Defending My Daughter

Defending My Daughter

My daughter, Tina, locked herself in her room, crying so hard her body shook. I pried the door open and saw that she was clutching a test paper that was torn to shreds and pieced back together. It was a math Olympiad selection test. She should have gotten a perfect score, but was given a score of zero instead. "Mom," she sobbed, "the teacher said 3x5 is not equal to 5x3; that it's taking shortcuts. She tore my paper up in front of everyone, revoked my eligibility for the competition, and told the whole class not to talk to me…" I looked at the deep red scratch marks on my daughter's wrist and immediately picked up the phone to call the principal. "What good does it do for your school's reputation to drive a kid who loves math to their breaking point?"

A Friendship Poisoned by Shrooms

A Friendship Poisoned by Shrooms

My best friend, Elise Moore, comes across a reel that shows someone being able to see the answers for the Math test during the SAT exam after ingesting poisonous mushrooms. So, she buys a bunch of poisonous mushrooms at a high price before using them as ingredients for a mushroom stew. I advise Elise to not eat those mushrooms, for she will get poisoned instead. Hence, Elise dumps those mushrooms out of fear. But after the exam is over, a classmate claims that he's able to see the answers during the math exam after getting poisoned by the mushrooms. He's confident that he'll ace his exam. When the results are out, it appears that the classmate is eligible to apply for any prestigious college out there. Meanwhile, Elise's results indicate that she's one mark away from getting into the threshold that qualifies her for prestigious colleges. Later on, Elise stabs me 18 times in a row at my graduation party. "You filthy loser! If not for your meddling, I'd be the one qualified for prestigious colleges!" When I open my eyes again, I've returned to the day Elise brags about the poisonous mushrooms benefitting the consumers at the SAT exam. "Once I eat the poisonous mushrooms, I'll be able to see the math answers during the exam! Do you think I should try the mushrooms out?"
