Runa’s expression went solemn. She let out a low, steady breath. "Yes. I wrote the books for every library in the territories, but only one true set remains." Her hand swept over the messy piles surrounding us. "The fake ones were spread everywhere outside that island house where your father hid you. Once Selene told me you were real, I gathered the true history here."

“I don’t like the books. But sometimes you don’t need to like a ladder to climb out of a hole.” Gabe let his head bump the wood. “You think a book will tell me how to keep my son alive?” “I think words carry weight,” Frank said. “Even the wrong ones. Speculum. Mirror. Sacculus. Pouch.” He tasted them again, grimacing. “A ploughed mirror, a pocket, a— trap. The last one—repdetrious—could be a corruption of repetitus—to return, demanded back. Or detrītus ground down. It could be a mouth mis-shaping something old.” He exhaled. “Or it’s theatre. But theatre doesn’t crush steel and write in virgin sand.”

I should be so professional that he can't even find any faults. I lifted the heavy book using both of my hands and placed it in front of me as it created a huge sound. I sensed Gabriel turned to me, but I didn't care. If something breaks because of these books, then it is on him. He fucking forced me.
