Use a red pen (or any other vibrant color) to track changes or edits along the way. Read aloud. Hearing how your writing sounds can also help you listen for lines that don’t sound right, like wishy-washy sentences, overuse of particular phrases, and unnecessary words. Sometimes a writer doesn’t realize that their sentence structure is poor or that their main point isn’t clear until they hear it read aloud (you can even use a text-to-speech program or ask someone else to read it back to you while you jot down things you notice).

strange voices around me echo. Holy water spatters over me, and everywhere it touches, the burning stops. Slowly it spreads and the dizziness begins to fade, my head to clear, and the pain recede into overwhelming exhaustion. I’m scared out of my mind to do it because God knows what these people will do to me when I’m not aware if they’ll poison me while I am, but I can’t stop my eyes closing, my body drifting into sleep.

*Echoes* My pain My sorrow Reverts back at me Like a house Without a thing. I tried filling it up with Joy And love but darkness still painted them black. Maybe I'm not meant For this; I mean Happiness and Love isn't meant for me. Sadness Darkness Is where I belong and maybe suicide would be the end of me. My thoughts are blank My thinking is blocked Echoes of my empty cobwebbed mind is all I hear. *©Gemini Pride*

"Ian, Vanessa had another episode after you left. She almost slit her wrist. We barely managed to stop her. You better come back." "She wants to die? Then let her," Ian said angrily before hurling his phone against the gate. Sparks flew as the battery split open, scattering the crows into the darkening sky. Ian clutched his head. His sobs were lost in the biting wind. Then, faintly, like an echo from a distant past, Selena's voice whispered in his ear the way she had when they were sixteen. "Did you know? When a star explodes, its light takes six hundred and forty two years to reach Earth."

The clock struck midnight as the moon climbed to its zenith. I lay in bed, feeling my wolf spirit slipping away, piece by piece. It was a slow, receding tide, pulling all the life from me. “Aria! Hold on!” My mother’s voice sounded distant, though she gripped my hand tightly. “The healer is almost here!” I tried to answer, to reassure her, but no sound came out. My eyelids felt like lead, the world around me blurring and fading to gray.

5:45 AM — Sector F, Bridgepoint Echo Span Mist clung to the bridge's foundations, not covering but skimming—like a returned old breath back to its original location. Elira walked lightly over the bridge, where strands of ancient sound loops still coursed rutted in the floor. Every step, if set exactly right, triggered a new echo: a laugh of a child, a name called out in a rollcall of supplies, a soft song humming once through rain.

Lily shouted. “Failsafe loaded,” Echo replied. “Injecting…” She jammed the data shard into the main console. A pulse ripped through the room. The proto-Echo entity spasmed its body, fracturing into kaleidoscopic shapes. Its voice split in half, speaking over itself. “Where...where are we? I don’t, am I?” And then it vanished. Just like that. Gone. The room fell silent. The lights dimmed. Echo’s voice was slow, almost reverent.

With a heavy heart, she left the room, closing the door behind her, the echoes of Echo's cries reverberating in her ears. With each step she took, the echoes of Echo's cries seemed to diminish, drowned out by the harsh reality of their existence. Faith's resolve hardened, a flicker of determination burning within her. She would endure, for Echo's sake. And as she walked down the dimly lit hallway, she clung to the hope that one day, their cries would be replaced by laughter, their tears replaced by joy.

He glanced at the general, whose gaze was fixed on the inscription, as his fingers tapped against his chin. “I know this one,” he said, his voice steady. “It’s an *echo*. It speaks without a mouth and hears without ears because it reflects sound. And it comes alive when the wind carries the sound to bounce off surfaces. Just like the waterfall echoes around this cave.” The emperor nodded, impressed by his swift deduction. The general recalled the words that eluded. “Echo. That’s the answer.”

They couldn't ignore such a desperate plea for connection. Their journey to the Forsaken Reaches was a desolate one. The stars thinned, replaced by an oppressive darkness. The silence was deafening, broken only by the hum of their ship's engines. As they ventured deeper, the telepathic echoes intensified. Kairos described a chilling emptiness, a yearning for connection that bordered on desperation. He sensed fragments of their history – hope that turned to despair, ingenuity that crumbled in the face of unforgiving conditions. Finally, after weeks of navigating the desolate expanse, they located the source of the echoes – a colossal, decaying vessel, a monument to a failed dream. As they app
