Those simple sentences kept echoing in Emmett's mind. All at once, it felt like he had been cursed. Those words echoed in his mind so much that a sharp pain spread across his forehead. The immense pain left him devoid of any strength. With a loud thud, his phone fell and slammed onto the table. Unfortunately, Emmett had tied the candlesticks with thin threads to ensure an even distance between each. One candlestick fell, pulling on the threads and causing the others to fall over, too. Hot flames spread onto the dead leaves and feathers on the ground. It then traveled toward the wooden dominoes.

Perhaps I already knew that my parents wouldn't be returning anytime. Is it the end of the world? I have no idea. To get them back, I would sacrifice everything. I only want my parents—not a telescope or any stars, please! All the stars in the sky, can you bless them within your range of light? Kylie felt her head split open as a strong pain struck her head. She felt as though someone was hammering information into her head, information that was vital, yes, but painful to incorporate. As the space fell apart, the stars fled, leaving only the Sovereign Stars and the Chosen Stars behind. Those seven celestial bodies flickered faintly as though observing Kylie’s actions, before finally surrounding her, and providing her some cover. Kylie’s eyes were shut in pain, her brows furrowed in distress and hurt.

The journey ahead was still fraught with unknown challenges. As the guardians regrouped, preparing to depart the Nexus, a sudden, dissonant hum echoed throughout the realm. The harmonious strands of moments that made up the Nexus began to waver, their luminescent glow flickering ominously. Nebula, her senses always attuned to the cosmos, suddenly looked up with alarm. "Wait... something's not right. The stars," she whispered, her voice edged with panic, "some of them are... vanishing." The guardians followed her gaze upwards, witnessing a surreal sight. The once vibrant constellations were slowly but steadily dimming, stars winking out of existence as if being erased from the fabric of time.

Rhea muttered, just loud enough for Luna to hear. Luna did not disagree. The universe did not hand out neat maps. Someone tugged on her cloak. She looked down. The same pup who had asked if it was night stared up at her, eyes huge. “Alpha,” he whispered, “are the stars dying?” Luna knelt. She searched for a simple lie that might soothe him. Found none that tasted right. “Some are,” she said gently. “Some are… changing. Like wolves. Some grow old and send out one last bright gift, then go quiet. Others move to new places. Others are born where you cannot see them yet.”

"Go ahead, little one. I’ll just clean the slobber off later.” The sky was clear of snow clouds and painted a dusky periwinkle color. The innumerable stars glittered across that canvas, bright and colorful. Faline stared up and up, taking in as much detail as she possibly could. Since she lost her farfetched sight, Faline had decided to burn these images into her memory as best she could.
