I clamp my free hand over her mouth, and the portal makes a pop sound as it snaps shut. "I've noticed that a fairy's spell breaks when they lose concentration," I growl as she digs her claws in my hand. I laugh for only a second at her weak attempt to harm me. I hear the flap of wings behind me, and I know I need to end this. Too much is riding on this moment for me to pause and savor just how well my plan worked. How profoundly simple it was to trick the fairy Queen into believing me. She believed me because she underestimated me, which makes it all the sweeter.
