He is her mate

An abyss seemed endless so the fall was very protracted. Were they going to survive? One of them kept on asking herself.

That's Lavina of course. She was very scared, for she knew nothing about the place or if the man holding her was trustworthy. What if he also was after something else? Perhaps, how could a person jump over a cliff to save someone he did not know? What if there were rocks beneath them?

But the man sounded very calm. Maybe he knew what was awaiting them.

"Don't worry! I'm taking you into an abyss where only peace and happiness flows!" Her mind replayed his statement as the fall continued leaving Lavina relieved in one way or the other. The man could not have said this if he knew they were going to die. Something was giving him guts to say those words.

"...Your story is about to reach a happily ever moment!"

Impossible...

This voice sounded familiar. Where could she have heard it before. She started racking her brains to find out where she could have heard it, but before she could put her fingers on the occasion, she heard it again.

"Are you scared?" It was now hoarse. So low pitched and romantic. "I told you not to worry!"

Gosh... this voice was very familiar. But where? As it kept resounding in her head, Lavina felt safety wrapping around her. Maybe this was not the one she heard before. This is because never in her life had she found safety in any voice. Only terror and fear, hatred and emulation were the compositions of the voices she used to here. Even her mother's was most of the times frightening.

"There is a water body down there so we are not going to die." He said again. "Even if you could not be good at swimming, I'm pretty good. We are not going to sink."

His tone was very masculine and promising.

Lavina could not see him in the eyes, but she thought that he was handsome judging by that voice of his. He was behind her, as if it's a from behind hug and warmth from his body also screamed handsomeness.

His arms that she could only see were around her waist stretching long to her belly where his palms dovetailed each other. All this was for her safety. Who was this man? She kept asking herself.

She couldn't wait to see him in the eyes. Were they green like hers or blue like the Alpha's?

Thinking about the alpha brought back the memories of her mom being shot dead. The memories of what was going to be her last moments seeing her parents. Their last conversation with Pagern.

"Alpha, what do you think you are doing?" Asked Gilber with a raised voice.

An embarrassed alpha could say nothing except, "how dare you raise your voice in front me?"

Pagern was trying to play it cool and pretend that he didn't regret his actions.

"Of course you are my alpha! But I'm a father. A man who can never think twice on the matters concerning his now only child." Said Gilber installing only joy and pride into Lavina before adding, "Do you get me?"

"Daddy, this is alpha! What are you doing?" Lavina asked herself after hearing her father's question.

Alpha Pagern was short-tempered. A mere compliment would upset him and do something precarious without even thinking twice.

"Do I...?" Alpha Pagern repeated Gilber's question raising his hand to point his index finger on himself and chuckled before he could finish.

"I thought we were friends!" He continued stepping closer to my dad. "I didn't know that you can't give me a bride!"

"But she is still young and you have a mate, don't you?"

"Of course I have a mate! But what if I want a mistress?" He said looking at my father with a half grin on his face then nodded his head as if to ask 'Isn't it?'

Impossible...

A mistress? Was that man sane? How could Lavina be a substitute wife? Were men that scarce? Didn't she have a mate? Of course Kagern had broke her heart but that was not enough reason to become his father's mistress.

"Isn't that crossing the borders?" Finally her mom who had been keeping quiet said. "Let alone mistress. Who could even wish to be your wife?"

Her voice, which even if sometimes could be frightening to Lavina was now not soft as it used to be but enraged.

"But she wants to!" Lied Pagern whose face looked like trying to hide his temper. He didn't want to show La that her statement was a scratch into a scar. A scar on his heart from a wound that she caused him on the day Gilber claimed her.

Lavina could see her parents giving her a stare of askance. She directly answered them.

"No, I don't!"

"See?" Asked Gilber as he turned his gaze towards Alpha Pagern. "She doesn't want it so you could have your leave."

"My leave?" Pagern's face tightened. "Don't pretend to be innocent. Don't you really know the reason why I'm here?"

"If it's about those stupid projects of yours, I'm not handing my daughter to you." Gilber said with a nearly foghorn voice terrifying Lavina. It was her first time seeing her father so enraged.

Project?

What were those projects?

Lavina could only steal a glance at her mom to find answers. When their eyes met, La lowered her head as if hiding something from her daughter.

This made Lavina more curious, prompting her to stare  at her mom with pleading eyes to tell her what was going on, little did she know that the truth she wanted to know is the very truth that was going to lead to the shooting of her mom. That it was going to make her an orphan, to force her into running for her dear life and ending in the arms of a lycan that had killed her La Lavina. The only person whose presence helped her to cope with boredom in Mansion La. Her family house.

"Hey... hey!"

Lavina whose mind was drown in memories of her last moments with her parents was startled when she heard someone heying her. She had forgotten that she was in someone's arms. That they were falling deep into an abyss.

"Close your eyes!" She heard his voice again. "We are about to get immersed into the water."

She did as told leaving only a line made by her long eyelashes out to be seen.

That's when she felt responses from other senses of hers.

Her skin could feel that the temperature there was more unpleasant. Very unwelcoming to a person who was dressed in a crop top and only a leather jacket.

The humidity was at its highest level. The wind was a gust and they were falling on a high velocity because of the momentum their bodies was giving them but that didn't stop her from feeling hot. This was very strange. The heat which was arising inside her was not something brought by sun or an other object but the man behind her.

"Am I aroused?" She asked herself.

Even if they were whooshing, Lavina could smell his scent. So breathtaking and intoxicating. Something like a high quality perfume but not really a perfume. That scent of his felt very natural.

But that was crazy. How could it be natural. A sweet scent like that one? She wondered not knowing that it was time to get dunked into the water.

"Oosh!" She let out a prolonged shriek as the cold water covered her body from toes to head. But before she could get drown, the mysterious man brought her back in the air to float.

As there was someone supporting her to remain unsinkable, she raised both her hands then using the hind of her palms, she whipped away the water from her eyes to see.

In front of her, rose an awe-inspiring view of a waterfall which was sending water down there where they were. The water seemed to be falling from a kilometer. This was very breathtaking.

Never in her life had she seen a scenery like that. It was like staring at Burj Khalifa, but with water flowing  down its floors to create a lake in the streets of Dubai.

On the horizon, she could see moon covered in cotton balls, an outstanding sign that she was about to shape-shift as the moon was fulling.

While still enjoying the fascinating scenery amidst her, that low-pitched voice she had been admiring since it spoke to her, resounded in her ears again.

"Mate, do you like what you see?"

Impossible!

Mate?

Now it made sense. That's why he has risked his life for her. But how did he know where to find her?

His question left Lavina's mind too weak to stop a swirl of questions that was invading ber mind.

Was...

Was that the reason why she had been feeling strange changes to her body?

Why his scent was very intoxicating?

Speaking of the scent, now that the fall had come to a halt, she could smell it better than before. This left her feeling like suffocating.

Never in her life had she came across something like that. Except on the day her twinsister died on. She could smell a scent like this from her dead body which was lying inside the coffin.

But that scent was supposed to belong to the lycan who murdered her. How could she smell it on this mate of hers? What did that mean?

Her heart skipped a beat, drumming loud like Jumanji drums.

"Mate?" The voice penetrated her ears again. "Do you like what you are seeing?"

This time, she knew who the voice belonged to. Byron, the true and detailed definition of terror.

"It's wonderful!" Lavina replied twirling to confirm her worries. Fear was invading her body parts, her heart beating more louder and fast as for her breath, it was becoming wheeze as if about to cry.

"Impossible!"

This is the only exclamation she could use to define what she saw.

'Goddess, what had I done to deserve all this?' She asked herself at the back of his brain. 'How could you asign Byron to be my mate?'

One was shocked and another one terrified, then the scene became awkward.
