She pointed at a pair of gold sandals with butterfly wings stitched onto the back. “Fly!” she squealed. I laughed. “You want to fly on your birthday?” She nodded enthusiastically, bouncing on her toes. I knelt beside her and lifted the sandals from the shelf. They were soft, with velcro straps and a cushioned sole. I slipped them onto her feet, adjusting the straps gently. “Walk for me,” I said. She took a few wobbly steps, then turned and grinned. “Comfy!” I smiled, but I wasn’t done. I wanted something that would scream royalty. I scanned the shelves again and spotted a pair of blush pink ballet flats with tiny rhinestones across the toe and a satin bow at the heel.

Maybe I could talk to some and understand a few more things about the current state of the pack. Sandra hands me a flayed silver gown that lengthens to my toes but has a slit at the front. The stomach upward is fitted to my skin, and the neckline is a very revealing V-shape. Its sleeves are short and flat, not even covering my shoulders fully. They were flat and fastened around the ankle. They were completely open with open toes except for a small strap across the toes and another that ran up the foot to connect the two sections. This part was woven with a chain link and had a bow tie made of twine at the top where the two sections connected. I didn’t take the time to change my nail polish on my toes but I didn’t mind as the red actually looked really good with the sandals. I finished the entire look with one of my stone disc necklaces. Then I saw my sandals drifting away. “My shoes!” I cried instinctively. Reign looked back at me with disbelief. “Seriously?” I pointed helplessly. “They’re floating away!” For one brief second he looked as though he regretted ever buying me from the auction, but instead of arguing, he bent down, snatched the sandals from the water, shoved them into my arms, and pulled me forward again. “Hold them and walk.” Even in the middle of terror, I hugged the sandals to my chest.

There was a matching pair of sandals that came with it. I tried it on. It hugged my body to perfection. It was backless, and the hem ended above my knees. I tied my hair into a bun and curled some tendrils to flow around it, and then put on very light makeup. When I put on the glass sandals that came with the gown, I was satisfied by my reflection. The girl staring back at me was far from Alana. Alana looked tough, like she meant business. The girl in front of me looked elegant and lovely. Her facial features were soft and angelic. She looked like the girl who could make even devilish guys like Travis Cross bend to her will. I took my purse and then went down to the lobby.
