I paused, caught off guard, then said, "I saw it on the TV—you're getting married."
He arched an eyebrow, his voice icy as he said, "And? You want out because of that?"
A scoff escaped him. "Forget it."
I inhaled sharply and said, "Charles, I'm lost here."
He replied softly, "Summer, I'll be honest. At first, you were just a diversion.
"However, I have to confess, you're different. I've never been so captivated.
"I'd give you my heart if I could.
"Too bad you didn't care for it, just trampled it underfoot."
