Echoes of Ruin
I started crawling.
Blood painted the stones beneath me. My one good leg pulled my broken body forward, inch by painful inch. Breathing made my vision swim. Around us, the castle itself seemed to explode into chaos, screams, magic, the sound of stone breaking, of power crashing together. But it all dimmed beneath the sound of Kellan’s heartbeat stuttering in my ears.
“Hold on,” I gasped, forcing the words past my own agony. “Hold on, Kellan. I’m coming.”
